The Model by William Mortensen

The Model by William Mortensen

The Model by William Mortensen William Herbert Mortensen (January 27, 1897 – August 12, 1965) was an American glamour photographer, primarily known for his Hollywood portraits in the 1920s–1940s in the Pictorialist style. Mortensen was a very self-critical man who began his photographic career taking portraits of Hollywood actors and film stills. During the 1920s and 1930s, he was inspired by horror films being adapted in studios and ended up making portraits about them in his own style. The Johnson Way (photo instructive from the fifties)

The ‘Johnson Way to Better Photography’ is a series of small booklets produced by Johnsons for specific, named, retailers (mostly chemists), who distributed Johnsons chemicals and equipment. The booklets were probably given away to customers (though the later versions are priced at 6d; 2.5p) in hopes that by reading them the customers would gain an interest in home photographic processing and return to make purchases. VistaScreen Art Nude 2 Set

VistaScreen Art Nude 2 Set

Unlike View-Master which was a family orientated product, the Vistascreen included several sets of tasteful images, Art Studies I, II & III and Glamour Models I, II & III in which the models were clothed, along with a series of 11 titles in the Miss Continentale (fully nude) sets.   The main photographer for practically all of the 350+ sets of Vistascreen 3D pictures was Stanley Long, who after leaving Vistascreen in the 1960s went on the produce several of the better known “Sexplotation” feature films in the 1970s.
