Camera clubs were very different from the ones we have today in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Sessions with models were common, and competitions did not exist, among other differences.
It was somewhat tricky for artists to express themselves fully in the world of erotic art, and camera clubs made it possible for artists and models alike to explore this territory.
Some people believe that such places were “dirty” locations that allowed participants to watch nude ladies. Whatever you like to think, it is a fact that now most of the glamorous images of that time, which everybody enjoyed, were taken in camera clubs.
Many of the now well-known photographers also took those glamorous photos during the camera club sessions.
